2200 Pennsylvania Ave Washington, D.C.
PROJECT COST: $95 million
Rising from the former George Washington University Hospital site in the District of Columbia, Square 54 at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue, promises to be a world-class, mixed-use town center.
Clark Foundations of Bethesda, Md., began the project in spring 2008 and completed a $4-million sheeting and shoring contract. Its excavation work included drilling soldier beams around the perimeter of the site.
Clark Construction Group of Bethesda began building the $95-million, 972,000-sq-ft office building and garage in January, with completion scheduled for March 2011.
A spread-footer foundation supports the concrete structure, which will be clad in a glass and aluminum curtain-wall system.
Ultimately, the project will include the office space and 84,000 sq ft of retail space. It will include a full-service grocery store, pedestrian plaza and 333 rental units.
Property owner George Washington University considers the project a “key source of nonenrollment-driven revenue to fund the core academic mission of the university.”
Boston Properties of Boston is developing the 2.6-acre, transit-oriented project, located adjacent to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro.
