DISA Fort George G. Meade, Md.
PROJECT COST: $369.6 Million
Hensel Phelps Construction Co. of Chantilly, Va., broke ground last spring on the Defense Information Systems Agency campus at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland.
The $369.6 million, 1 million-sq-ft, seven-building complex on a 95-acre site will become the agency’s new headquarters, providing office space for 4,700 employees. The project is a component of the Base Realignment and Closure process.
DISA is a Department of Defense combat support agency that provides real-time information and communications to the president, vice president, secretary of defense and other military officials. The buildings will also house the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations from Arlington, Va.; the Deployable Joint Command and Control Program Office from Panama City, Fla.; the Joint Tactical Radio System Program Office from Rosslyn, Va.; and other tenants.
Crews began erecting steel in January and installing precast concrete panels in April. Topping out was expected this summer. The project team aims for LEED-silver certification.
Green features include daylighting, under-floor air vents, a building automation system managing mechanical and electrical systems and the use of local and recycled material. Completion is planned for 2011.
The project includes an operations building, command building, acquisitions and development building, common building, laboratory, warehouse and central utility plant. Enclosed walkways will connect the buildings.
