Dewberry Hires FEMA Executive to
Lead Homeland Security Post
Zensinger will look to expand Dewberry's homeland security/emergency
management consulting services.
Dewberry
of Fairfax Va., hired Laurence Zensinger
as vice president and director of homeland security. Zensinger
is a former homeland security/emergency management senior
executive for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal
Emergency Management Agency. He will look to expand homeland
security/emergency management consulting services for the
engineering firm. Zensinger began his career with FEMA in
1978. He most recently served as the deputy director of FEMA's
Recovery Division., which provides disaster relief nationwide.
Forrester
Construction of Rockville, Md., promoted Tom
Luddy to group vice president, special projects. Luddy
has spent nine of his 19 year career in the construction industry
working with Forrester. Luddy's expertise includes building
renovations, additions, historic renovations, base building
and fast-track projects for restaurant, hospitality, law firm,
high-technology, retail and corporate clients. Representative
clients include The Public Welfare Foundation, Junior League
of Washington, Swidler & Berlin, Holland & Knight,
The Inn at Little Washington, and Zaytinya Restaurant.
Greenman-Pedersen
of Rockville, Md., promoted Lew Brode
to vice president and branch manager of its Rockville office.
He will replace Justin Tracy, who is relocating to Atlanta,
Ga., to start his own firm. Brode joined Greenman-Pedersen
in 2002 as a mechanical engineer and was promoted to operations
manger in 2003. he has been actively involved in new business
development and new branch operations. Brode's recent clients
include the U.S. Department of State, American Red Cross,
Daughters of the American Revolution, and General Services
Administration.
U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational
Safety and Health Administration appointed Turner Construction
executive Stephen Wiltshire
to its Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health.
Wiltshire is national safety director for market segment at
Turner Construction. Associated Builders and Contractors nominated
Wiltshire for the OSHA position. Wiltshire also serves on
the U.S. Department of Labor's Crane and Derrick Negotiated
Rulemaking Committee. He has worked in the construction industry
for 24 years, specializing in safety.
The
American Road and Transportation Builders Association
announced the election of its 2004-2005 officers, including
several members of the mid-Atlantic construction community.
Richard Wagman, chairman and
CEO of G.A. & F.C. Wagman in York, Pa., will serve as
chairman. Jack Kinstlinger,
chairman emeritus of KCI Technologies in Hunt Valley, Md.,
will serve as northeastern region vice chairman. Jim Ahern,
president of Ahern & Assocs. in Charleston, W.Va., will
serves as southern region vice chairman. James
Madara, senior vice president of Gannett Fleming in
Allentown, Pa., will serve as treasurer.
The RMC Research Foundation
named Julie Luther as its first
executive director. Luther has an extensive career in the
ready mixed concrete industry and not-for-profit organizations,
most recently as senior vice president of the National Ready
Mixed Concrete Association. Luther has also worked with Associated
Builders and Contractors, and the Concrete Industry Management
Patrons organization. RMC Research Foundation promotes and
funds research and education for the ready mixed concrete
industry.
James McWhorter Jr., 80, of
Woodbridge, Va., died Sept. 4 at his home. McWhorter joined
Solite Corp. of VA and Northeast Solite Corp. of Saugerties,
N.Y. in 1961 and remained in their employ for nearly 50 years.
He was a longtime supporter of, and expert in, the lightweight
aggregate industry. "Mac," known on construction
sites for his hands-on expertise, was an integral part in
the collection of the technical data that is used today through
the concrete-related industries. He continued to be active
in this research until his demise. He is survived by his wife,
Gwen; his son, James; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and his brother, Reverend D.F. McWhorter.
