Ranking the region’s top architects and engineers

Several Mid-Atlantic design firms posted record growth in 2005 while the year ahead promises some of the largest design jobs to hit the region.

While 2005 had a few design firms posting weak revenues in the Mid-Atlantic region, the robust market has kept most architects and engineers busy with work that ranged from complex civil projects to aesthetically progressive new office buildings. Several companies grew revenues by well over 25 percent, such as Philadelphia's Pennoni Associates, Norfolk, Va.,-based Clark Nexsen, Washington's WDG Architecture, and Arlington,Va.,-based DMJM Design.

A very significant move comes from the Washington, D.C.,-based Leo A Daly, which jumped over 30 spots by increasing its revenue from $13.3 million in 2004 to $40.7 million in 2005.

Some of the largest projects to hit the region have been awarded in 2005, such as the $300 million U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, awarded to Chantilly, Va.,-based William H. Gordon Associates and the $200 million Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, awarded to Arlington, Va.,based Perkins Eastman.
