Mid-Atlantic Construction's Best of 2004
Awards
Projects from Philadelphia to southern Virginia were put
to the test by our independent jury of industry experts
to determine who would be named Mid-Atlantic Construction's
Best of 2004. Read on to learn more about the 22 projects
that our jury honored as the region's finest examples of
design, construction and teamwork.
If there are any doubts about the strength of the mid-Atlantic
construction market, our Best of 2004 award winners should
allay those concerns. Mid-Atlantic
Construction's inaugural awards program drew dozens
of entries from around the region and the results were impressive.
The pool of submissions represented everything from stunning
museums and challenging restorations to significant transit
projects and highly technical institutions.
Our seven-person jury had no lack of intriguing designs and
sizeable construction jobs to consider. But when it came to
handing out awards, our jury focused special attention on
the quality of teamwork that brought these projects to completion.
After hours of discussion and debate, our jury of industry
experts agreed to recognize a total of 22 projects in 15 different
categories, including one overall Project of the Year - the
National Institute of Standards and Technology's Advanced
Measurement Laboratory in Gaithersburg, Md. The NIST project
represents an impressive balance of innovative design, complex
systems, and creative problem-solving by the team members.
Our discerning jury wasn't quick to dole out awards. Only
seven submissions received Project of the Year honors in their
respective categories and some categories, such as Interior
Fit-Out, did not produce any winners. In honoring these select
projects, our jury and Mid-Atlantic
Construction are recognizing only the best that the
region has to offer.
With optimism in the air for an improved construction market
in 2005, Mid-Atlantic Construction's
Best of 2004 award winners show that the industry has a lot
to be hopeful about heading into the new year.
